I had went to the store tonight and before I had went in I saw a lady standing outside against the wall.  Let me remind you I live in downtown Fresno and this is the liquor store that has been featured on Cops when they were in town.

Now, when I got out I saw her and so I thought about giving her some money on my way out.  As I left the store I clinched a $1 in my hand and walked out.  But when I glanced back and looked at her she had a look of desperation, but not in a good way.  She looked as if she was waiting for drugs or that she was on them.  Bad.

After that I just got in my car an left without giving her any money.  Is that wrong?  I initially wanted to.  But I also don’t want to help people out if it would just go to drugs.  I try to do my good deeds when I can.

Who cares what the money goes to? The reason you should give money to someone in need is to help them find a little comfort in tough times. If what makes them happy is drugs than who cares? You don’t have to be pro-drugs to understand that do you? I’m not. you aren’t giving money to yourself. There for you don’t need to agree with what the money is going to. You’re giving money to someone else. And that someone else is going to find happiness in things that you wouldn’t. The other thing you could do, if you so desire, is buy the person some food and give them money. But really, you’re not helping the person by not giving them money so they can’t buy drugs. They’re just going to buy drugs the next chance they get if that’s what they really want to do with the money. unfortunately, an addict pretty much needs to want to stop using in order to stop. So you aren’t going to save this person from drugs or anything from not giving her money. And anyway, maybe she already had her drugs. Maybe she was just looking for food at that point. You said she looked kind of buggy. So you may have had the dollar that would have fed her that night. I mean, sure if that’s the case she was pretty irresponsible to by drugs when she didn’t have food. but that’s addiction.

My point: If you want to help someone less fortune give them money. Don’t judge them. Only they can turn their lives around. You can only hope that they will make the right decision. And if they don’t you can hope that next time they will. But you at least may be able to say that you saved this woman from starving one night and gave her another day, another chance to make that decision.

Also, if she is doing heroin or something than she could die from just stopping cold turkey. So even if she was waiting for drugs, maybe she didn’t plan on it tomorrow or the next day.

You’ll never know everyones situation. Just be as kind as you can to people. I think that’s the only real way to turn things around.

You have some decent points. But the fact of the matter is I do like to know where the money goes. It’s my money and I worked for it, so therefore I have every right to determine who gets any of my money and what it’s used for.

That’s fine. If you’re giving them money to make yourself feel better. I usually give people money to make them feel better. That’s my honest opinion.
