I mentioned before I wanted to start posting videos from some of the things going on in Fresno as far as nightlife goes. Now that the iPhone 3GS can do pretty damn good video with direct-to-Youtube integration, I will try to post more here as I get them.

Here is a video from the day I got my new iPhone with DJ Clint playing at Lush in Fresno, which takes place at the Starline in Tower District.

I read recently about how Fresno is having problems with nightclubs and restaurants in regards to dancing. Is this city nuts? Maybe it’s just plain stupid. Here is a quote from the article:

Statistics from the Fresno Police Department show that crime rises after midnight, says interim planning manager Arnoldo Rodriguez.

“Crime peaks when there’s dancing,” he says. “The data’s fairly convincing.”

Wow. Crime peaks when there is dancing. Really? From all of the years I’ve gone out dancing with my wife, I’ve not seen crime “increase” because of people dancing. Have you seen an angry dancer? Maybe because he got mad that night and beat his wife so he went out to dance.

In all seriousness, this ordinance being discussed is stupid and here’s why — a quote from the article:

On one hand, bars could open in zones that are currently off limits – such as office parks along Herndon Avenue (known as CP zones) and small neighborhood shopping centers (known as C1 zones).

We also could hang out later in northeast Fresno, since businesses in large shopping centers (known as C2 zones) would have the same closing times across the city. That means northeast bars could stay open as late as 2 a.m. if they meet certain conditions.

This right here says it all. Since the city can make money off of alcohol they feel it is much more important to allow people to drink more until 2:00a and possibly drive drunk, as opposed to letting people dance.

Way to go Fresno. Another sure tell sign to get my ass out of here.

Fresno Nightlife Blogging

One of the things I’ve kind of wanted to do was blog on nightlife activity going on in Fresno. There already exists a few things of capturing nightlife here such as ClubFlys but I was more wanting to capture DJs on video in their element at night clubs. Not the people, but the artists. It seems this is always overlooked here in exchange for capturing people out and about. I would be open to comments or suggestions. On a side note I was thinking of capturing a lot of this on a HD camcorder.
